Technical Information
What is a centrifugal separator?
A centrifugal separator is a device used to separate components of different specific gravities by utilizing the centrifugal force exerted by spinning a substance at high speed.
Centrifugal separation is a rapid and quick sedimentation and separation process that mechanically generates centrifugal force thousands or tens of thousands of times greater than gravity to centrifugally sediment the product.
Separation Mechanism
There are two major types of centrifugal separation methods: centrifugal sedimentation and centrifugal filtration.
In centrifugal sedimentation, the centrifugal force generated by rotation separates components with different specific gravities. The sedimentation velocity of the particles can be used to completely separate as well as classify them.
Centrifugal filtration utilizes centrifugal force to separate solids and liquids through a filtering material such as cloth or metal. The moisture content in solids can be reduced through the filter material.
Sedimentation separation type
Solid particles in the liquid are separated by centrifugal force, resulting in a clear liquid, which is discharged from the top of the rotating cylinder. |
Filtration separation type
A filter media is used to separate the mixture. |
Centrifugal force and centrifugal effect
Centrifugal force is the force exerted on an object in circular motion, acting in the direction away from the center of the circle. Centrifugal effect refers to the effect of centrifugal force to separate components of different densities.。
